U.S. stocks fell Wednesday.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney)
Companies including Morgan Stanley (MS, Fortune 500), PepsiCo (PEP, Fortune 500) and Verizon (VZ, Fortune 500) are scheduled to report quarterly results Thursday morning, while IBM (IBM, Fortune 500), Google (GOOG, Fortune 500) and Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500) are up after the close.
In economic news, the government will release its weekly data on initial jobless claims at 8:30 a.m. ET.
Fear and Greed Index slides back into "fear"
U.S. stock futures were up slightly ahead of the opening bell Thursday.
U.S. stocks closed lower Wednesday, as disappointing earnings sparked a broad sell-off.
American Express (AXP, Fortune 500) shares slid in after-hours trading Wednesday after the credit-card provider reported quarterly revenue that came up short of expectations. eBay (EBAY, Fortune 500) shares also fell as the online-auction site offered weak second-quarter guidance.
European markets rose in morning trading, while Asian markets ended mixed. The Shanghai Composite added 0.2%, while the Hang Seng declined 0.4% and the Nikkei lost 1.2%.
